Arrow Vale shortlisted for TES creative school award

RSA Academy Arrow Vale shortlisted for TES Creative School of the Year 2016

Guy Shears, Principal at Arrow Vale, said, ‘This is a huge honour and a reflection of the outstanding work by staff and students at RSA Academy Arrow Vale. Creativity is crucial in enabling students to explore and develop skills to enhance their deep knowledge and understanding in all subjects, turning their powerful thinking into practical actions. This enables students across to gain the highest possible academic excellence and prepares them for future success. Through creativity, students gain a real understanding of their subjects which leads to academic excellence, and prepares students for high success in future life.’

Reena Mistry, Assistant Principal said, ‘This is fantastic news! As an RSA Academy, we have access to a range of enrichment and curriculum opportunities from the RSA, that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Students and staff across all RSA Academies work collaboratively on a wide range of projects which enhance the learning and experiences for all students. Some examples include students working with RSA Fellows and the Royal Designers for Industry who are all experts in their fields. Students have had opportunities to work within the RSA Performing Arts Hub as well as take part in a range of workshops, debates and public speaking. Arrow Vale students recently won a range of prizes at the RSA Pupil Design Awards. In addition, as a National Teaching School and Teacher Effectiveness Programme (TEEP) Ambassador school, staff at Arrow Vale actively embed creativity into lessons. Students are encouraged to be creative in their thinking skills as well as in practical subjects. This in turn develops independent learning and a deeper understanding of the subject knowledge. We firmly believe that creativity empowers students and equips them with the vital skills and knowledge needed to succeed academically at school, in university and in high quality employment.’

Students, staff and the Arrow Vale community will have to wait until June to hear if they have won the overall award. This year, the TES Schools Awards dinner will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane on Friday 24 June.

Good luck Arrow Vale!
