Inspiring creativity, participation and trying something new

Furthering passion for the arts

2018 brings us to Whitley Academy for our celebration of arts and creativity across the RSA Family of Academies. We will be in Coventry to mark the city’s recent fabulous success in winning the bid to be the UK’s next City of Culture in 2021 following Hull’s amazing year. All RSA seven schools are coming along to create new artworks and scratch performances to the theme of ‘belonging’, and will be working with we are thrilled to say, Birmingham’s own super-spoken-word artist, Amerah Saleh.

The theme of Artsfest 2018 is ‘belonging’. The ethos of the day is participation, trying something new, having fun and being creative as we aim to further students passion for the arts and understanding of different artforms. There are five workshops to participate in:

We have one day to explore new skills and at the end of working together students will do a scratch performance/show and tell to demonstrate some of what has been learnt and creative experiments that have been tried – to scratch surface of new possibilities.

We will also celebrate the winners of the RSA Academies’ Poetry Prize and the RSA Academies’ Art Prize alongside a big hurrah to those schools that have been awarded Artsmark.

This is an annual event in our calendar demonstrating the value attached to a whole range of arts opportunities in schools and careers associated with those fields. It is a coming together of all schools in the family, taking creative risks and making new friends.
