Artsmark Gold for Abbeywood

We are delighted that staff and pupils at Abbeywood First School RSA Academy have been awarded Artsmark Gold, awarded by Arts Council England.  The school is only 1 of 3 Primary schools in Worcestershire to have achieved this and the first primary aged school in Redditch. This respected award acknowledges the school’s commitment and provision for the arts and will be held for 2 years.

To achieve Gold Level, the Abbeywood has had to demonstrate high quality provision in dance, drama, music and art both inside and outside the classroom.  This includes working with professionals, rich opportunities for culturally diverse experiences, participation in high quality performances as well as sharing best practice with other schools and showing innovation and creativity in their approach to curriculum design with arts at the heart of it.

“Our innovative and highly creative curriculum puts the arts at the centre of many learning experiences, giving our children a wealth of opportunities and experiences.  Our aim over the next few years is to continue to build on this, giving the children broader and richer experiences which enhance their learning and development at every level.  It is an exciting journey to be on and I am very proud of the hard work and commitment of the whole school community.”  Deena Frost, Head of School, Abbeywood First School

“We always learn in exciting and interesting ways. This week we have started our new theme ‘The Feel Good Factor’ with drumming, dance, singing and yoga workshops which have given us real experiences of ‘feeling good.’ Working with different professionals makes us realise what we can really achieve if we work hard.” Year 4 Pupil

Huge congratulations to all the staff and children for such a fabulous achievement.
