A mentoring project that uses the power of football to inspire young people
Achieving goals on and off the pitch
This term RSA Academies teamed up with Football Beyond Borders, a registered charity which uses the power of football to tackle inequality and provide opportunities for young people to achieve their goals both on and off the pitch. Pupils from Whitley and Holyhead are taking part in a new project which combines football sessions with a homework club aimed at supporting the development of the pupils’ literacy skills.
The footballing theme continues into the literacy classes, which have recently included work on metaphors. The wonderful pieces of work, include this description of French footballer Zinedine Zidane, “as tall as the Eiffel Tower and with skills as crisp as the crust on a French baguette”!
