RSA Civic Day 2015
On Friday 10 July, forty members of staff from the RSA gave up their time to participate in the 2015 Civic Day.
The RSA organises this ‘volunteering day’ for staff every year, previous excursions have included painting a community hall in Bognor Regis, painting an arts centre in Hackney, gardening, cleaning and more painting in a disused school in Lambeth, litter picking and swan pontoon building in Peterborough, so we in the RSA Academies team were thrilled to be able to add to this list of good deeds with hard graft and manual labour directed at two of the RSA Family of Academies schools, Arrow Vale and Ipsley in Redditch.
At Arrow Vale the team were designated a outside space between an art classroom and a conference-style room that had become overgrown and challenged with clearing the vegetation, moving bricks and painting a shed. The Ipsley team were invited to paint a cloakroom and do some gardening to reinvigorate an area of raised beds. Arrow Vale plan to use this outdoor space as are area for displaying sculptures and for creating art works that are more messy and benefit from being created outdoors! Ipsley’s Year 6 were delighted with their newly revamped cloakroom and the gardeners thrilled with prospect of growing plants and vegetables.
It was a great opportunity for so many RSA colleagues to visit these schools, meet some staff and catch a glimpse of the Helen Storey project, Catalytic Teaching and Learning with its mini Field of Jeans whilst there.
You can watch a time-lapse film of the team based at Arrow Vale throwing their all into the task at hand.
With thanks to colleagues at the RSA for all their hard work and for a hugely rewarding day.
